Bryan-College Station Motorcycle Accident Claims One Man’s Life

April 30, 2013

A 21-year-old Bridgeport, Texas, man was killed in a College Station Motorcycle Accident earlier this month. Reports indicate the crash happened at approximately 4:30 a.m. on Monday, April 1, at the intersection of Texas Highways 6 and 14 in Robertson County.

According to a story released by KWTX News, the victim was riding a 2009 Yamaha street bike along Highway 6 when the 53-year-old driver of a pickup truck, from Bremond, Texas, began to approach an intersection with the highway from Texas 14. The driver of the truck failed to yield the right-of-way to the motorcyclist and the two vehicles collided.

The impact of the crash threw the motorcyclist from his machine and caused him to lose his helmet as well. He died at the scene as a result of injuries sustained in the accident. The driver of the truck was wearing a set belt and was uninjured.

With both the Mercury and volume of motorcyclists on the roads rising, it is important for both motorcyclists and motorists alike to be more aware of their surroundings, considering a majority of accidents between these two types of vehicles occur simply because drivers did not see one another.

The Bryan Personal Injury Attorneys with Daniel Stark Injury Lawyers recommend that drivers always look twice before entering traffic. Eliminating distractions will also prove effective in the fight against these types of collisions.

Bikers Descend On Texas Capitol To Promote Motorcycle Safety Laws

January 29, 2013

The roar of roughly 2,000 motorcycles was heard descending upon Capitol Hill in Austin, Texas, yesterday morning as bikers gathered to bring awareness of motorcycle safety to lawmakers as the new legislative session began. According to an article from KVUE News, the motorcycle ride began at around 10:00 a.m. and went down 11th Street to the Capitol.

The ride is in its seventh year and is conducted annually as a way to promote motorcycle safety laws with lawmakers. The group has been successful in recent years of working to get not only a helmet law on the books, but also the creation of a state-funded Motorcycle Safety Course for riders to participate in. This year, the aim of the group is to focus on legislation that would focus on Texas Motorcycle Accidents that are caused by another vehicle’s failure to yield.

The need for the new law is apparent in the area considering the high number of accidents attributed to the behavior. Just last Sunday, a motorcyclist was left seriously injured after being struck by a vehicle that failed to yield at the corner of 47th Street and Red River just after 4:00 p.m.

The law firm of Daniel Stark Injury Lawyers has a team of Austin Personal Injury Attorneys that have been recognized for successfully handling motorcycle accident litigation and they suggest discussing your case with an attorney if you have been involved in a motorcycle accident that caused by another driver’s negligence.

Experts Warn 14,000 Motorcycle Helmets May Be Unsafe

June 19, 2012

Wearing a helmet is a motorcyclist’s best bet for reducing the chances of injury or death in the event of a Texas Motorcycle Accident. In fact, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) says that as many as 1,500 motorcyclists’ lives were saved by wearing helmets in 2010. Not all helmets are equally constructed for safety though and recently, the NHTSA warned riders of the dangers of wearing a certain model and brand of helmet.

KVUE News reported that more than 14,000 of the 5X5/SA-08 helmets that were imported and sold by Tank Sports, Inc., of California, aren’t safe for use. The article explains that the helmets never underwent Department of Transportation (DOT) testing or approval for safety.

DOT standards require all helmets to undergo penetration testing to ensure that the helmet will fully protect the head, skull, and brain in the event of a crash. The outer shell and inner liner of the Tank Sports, Inc. helmets were both cracked through during recent testing by DOT officials.

While no deaths or injuries have been reported in connection with the helmets, experts warn riders who have them to stop using them and replace them immediately.

The Austin Personal Injury Lawyers with Daniel Stark Injury Lawyers would like to remind all motorcycle riders to always wear a DOT-approved helmet, and require passengers to do the same, every time you ride your bike. Doing so could save your life.

Motorcycle Rally Leads To Dozens Of Accidents In Austin

June 12, 2012

The Republic Of Texas Motorcycle Rally led to a large number of motorcycle accidents in the Austin, Texas area. According to KVUE News, 29 crashes were reported, resulting in 16 serious injuries and three deaths.

One of the most serious accidents involved a 64-year-old man being ejected from his bike during a crash on Highway 290 and falling off of a flyover. Austin Police say the accident happened Friday afternoon when the biker hit a guardrail and fell nearly 30 feet to his death. Investigators are still looking into why the man may have lost control of the machine and are asking witnesses to come forward.

On Saturday, another biker died on W. Koenig Lane. The 44-year-old man was attempting to make a left turn, but had forgotten to put his kickstand up. The stand dragged across the asphalt causing the bike to topple and eject the rider.

Despite several deaths occurring during the rally, the Austin Police Department was happy to announce that no motorcyclists were arrested for drinking and driving over the weekend where a total of 51 DWI arrests were made.

The Austin Personal Injury Lawyers with Daniel Stark Injury Lawyers would like to send their condolences to the families of the bikers who were killed over the weekend. The firm would also like to remind bikers of the importance of preventing Texas Motorcycle Accident injuries by always wearing a helmet and protective gear.

Separate Austin Motorcycle Accidents Injure One, Kill Another

March 27, 2012

A motorcyclist is lucky to be alive after an accident in Austin, Texas, yesterday. According to reports from KVUE News, the crash happened just after noon on the Loop 360 Bridge above northbound MoPac, at the Capitol of Texas Highway.

The man was crossing over the bridge when he lost control of the bike and hit the wall. The impact threw him over the barrier and onto the highway 40 feet below. Although he was wearing a helmet, he suffered severe head injuries; however, he was last listed in good condition at a local hospital.

Another motorcycle rider was not so lucky when he was involved in a crash Sunday evening. KVUE News reports that around 11:00 p.m., a motorcyclist was traveling north on Highway 29 when his bike went off the road for unknown reasons and crashed. The driver was thrown from the bike and died at the scene. Investigators are still working to determine the cause of the crash.

In an effort to decrease the number of fatal motorcycle crashes, the Texas Department of Transportation has begun a campaign called LookLearnLive, which works to educate the public on motorcycle safety awareness.

The Texas Motorcycle Accident Lawyers with Daniel Stark Injury Lawyers ask that all bikers stay safe by always wearing a helmet and obeying the posted speed limits. Following these tips and driving defensively should significantly decrease your chances of being injured or killed in an accident.

Austin Police Reduce Accidents And Tickets Through Saturation Patrols

February 28, 2012

The Austin Police Department (APD) has been reducing the number of car accidents in the city by using a technique known as saturation patrols near the area’s most prominent accident locations. According to reports from KXAN News, the APD announced last week that car crashes in the city have declined by 11% in 2011.

A spokesman for the APD Highway Enforcement Command, Lt. Ely Reyes, said that focusing on certain dangerous locations across the city has reduced the overall number of citations written by officers as well. He estimates that APD officers wrote 50,000 fewer tickets in 2011 than they did in the previous year. The number of traffic citations also saw a considerable decrease over the year, dropping from 224,661 in 2010 to 165,757 in 2011.

Reyes concluded by saying, “Any time you have concentrated enforcement efforts, compliance always comes along with that.”

Officers will continue to patrol in “designated danger zones” such as Slaughter Lane near I-35, which saw 21 crashes in the past year, making it the most dangerous roadway in the city. The second most dangerous location in Austin according to number of accidents is the intersection of Congress Avenue and Cesar Chavez Boulevard with 20 crashes between 2010 and 2011.

The Austin Car Accident Attorneys with Daniel Stark Injury Lawyers encourage drivers to stay safe while on the road by always buckling up, obeying the speed limit, and driving defensively.

New Smartphone App Helps Track Blood Alcohol Content

January 3, 2012

What is the biggest problem facing those hoping to eradicate drunk driving from America’s highways? One common answer that is supported by research is that most intoxicated individuals don’t think they are drunk.

A new application for smartphones hopes to give drinkers a more precise way to measure their blood alcohol content. YNN News reported yesterday that the app, called Drink Tracker Breathalyzer, records and tracks the drinks you have had throughout the evening and figures your blood alcohol content (BAC) based on information such as height, weight, sex, age, and metabolic removal rate.

The application can be downloaded for $1.99 and is easy to use. Drinkers will first enter all their personal information into the system to create a profile. Then as the night goes on, touch screen buttons will allow you to record and track the number of drinks you have had. The app updates your BAC every sixty seconds and even offers a timer to let you know how long it will be before you reach a target BAC low enough to drive.

While the app offers a somewhat quantifiable way of measuring your blood alcohol content, it is not exact. The Texas auto accident attorneys with Daniel Stark Injury Lawyers say that the safest bet is to not drink at all before driving. If you have been drinking, it is best to just take a cab home rather than risk your life and the lives of those around you.

Three Motorcyclists Killed, Another Injured in Separate Galveston Crashes

November 8, 2011

The Lone Star Bike Rally brought nearly 400,000 motorcyclists and enthusiasts down to Galveston, Texas, over the past weekend. Three motorcyclists died and another was severely injured in separate accidents in the area. According to KVUE News, all the accidents happened within a 36-hour period.

Early Friday morning, a 51-year-old rider was injured when he slammed into a school bus. He was transported to Galveston Hospital, where he was treated and released.

Later the same day, a motorcyclist and his passenger were both killed in a crash on I-45. Authorities believe the driver was speeding and weaving in and out of traffic when he lost control of the bike and crashed.

A man was also killed in a crash on Saturday going 100 miles per hour. The biker was traveling so fast, he did not have time to stop or react to an oncoming pickup truck, and the two collided head-on.

According to the National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration (NHTSA), in the state of Texas, 375 motorcyclists were killed in 2007. Of those victims, 40 percent were wearing a helmet, while 60 percent were not.

The Texas Motorcycle Accident Lawyers with Daniel Stark Injury Lawyers would like to take this opportunity to remind all motorcyclists to stay safe by slowing down and always wearing a helmet. Heeding these two simple precautions could save your own life, or the life of another person.

Separate Texas Motorcycle Crashes Kill Three, Injure One

September 6, 2011

For some Texans, Labor Day is synonymous with breaking out the motorcycle for a cruise. People get caught up in the fun though, and forget to put safety first. Two separate motorcycle accidents in the Austin area over the holiday weekend have left three people dead and one in critical condition.

KVUE news reported the first accident happened Saturday night, around 10:20 PM, on Dee Gabriel Collins Road. A 59-year-old man and a woman lost control of the bike and crashed, killing the man and leaving the woman in critical condition. Authorities are unsure who was driving at the time of the crash, but have determined the man was not wearing a helmet when the accident occurred.

The second crash happened early this morning when a motorcycle and car collided, throwing the rider of the bike from the vehicle. The accident occurred around 3:00 AM on the MoPac Expressway, near RM 2222. Authorities shut down the northbound lanes of MoPac as they investigated. The roads have since reopened; however, authorities are continuing their investigation into the moments surrounding the crash.

The Texas Motorcycle Accident Attorneys with Daniel Stark Injury Lawyers say the best way to protect yourself from injury when on a motorcycle is to always wear a helmet. It has been proven by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration that thousands of motorcyclists who perished in crashes could have been saved had they been wearing a helmet.

Texas Auto Accidents Down at Intersections with Cameras

August 2, 2011

New research by the Texas Transportation Institute (TTI) shows that Texas auto accidents are down at intersections where red light cameras are installed. The report, which was released Monday, used data from 275 red light camera intersections and 11,000 crash records to determine crash frequencies one, two, and three years after the camera was installed.

Findings were astounding: an 11% decrease in Texas auto accidents was determined by a crash decrease of 633 crashes at the sites after cameras were installed. These reductions were seen on all types of roadways, from primary business roads to the U.S. highway system. Also, analysis of accident figures at intersections a year before cameras were installed to a year after cameras were installed shows a 23% decrease in the number of auto accidents. Studies on the effects after two and three years showed declines of nearly 27 and 21 percent.

The author of the report believes the cameras play a vital role in reducing Texas auto accidents, stating, “These findings show clearly that red light cameras offer significant safety benefits. Most important, they help prevent the most severe and deadly type of intersection crashes.”
